10 Day Water Fast – Days 5-10

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

In my last post, I mentioned that I would try a detox bath and see how it worked for me. Well, it worked and it didn’t in a sense because I didn’t have enough Epsom salt. I should have checked but honestly, in my house, we have had Epsom salt forever and I was always the only one who used it so I expected it to always be there. I forgot that my son, an avid athlete, was now also an Epsom salt user. When I got to the container, there was just enough for a baby bath. I got in anyway and rested for the entire 45 minutes as recommended.

Perhaps because there was not much salt, I didn’t have to worry about dehydration. The diatomaceous earth made the water kinda grey but caused no negative side effects and the hot water was so soothing, I almost fell asleep. My tub is not very long making it was a challenge to submerge my entire body so I sat criss-cross for a while which I told myself was a good stretch in the hot water. When I got out, I drank a bunch of water and went straight to bed. I had no problems sleeping or waking up the next morning and I felt fine all day. So, other than wanting to do it again with more salt, I recommend a bath during a fast. Oh, but I also didn’t “bathe” with soap and stuff. I literally just used this bath as a soak.

Box Water

The last 5 days of the water only fast actually were very simple. My natural hunger cues must have turned off because it became very easy to say no to food and actually, I began planning food. I would read blogs and Instagram pages that focused on plant-based foods and recipes for inspiration. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos by vegans who made simple and quick recipes or really affordable recipes without wheat. I also found many recipes that are gluten-free once I noticed meals that were not trying to mimic meat meals. I mean, burgers are burgers and most plant-based burgers are beans and quinoa or oats. Faux sausages or mock meats usually have seitan, which is made with wheat flour, so avoiding those recipes is actually pretty easy. I found some bloggers with YouTube channels that I am in love with! Not all are strictly plant-based, but because of the variety of recipes they offer, I found many recipes or growing techniques to be worth noting. I’ll share a link to their blogs or channels below for you to check out! All in all, I am looking forward to doing another 10-day water fast just because of the health benefits. I am thinking a 3-day water fast once a month and a 10-day water fast every 3 months. I know this may sound wild if you’ve never done a water fast, but I feel confident that once you whole-heartedly give one a try (after checking with your medical professional first of course,) you’ll notice the benefits and want to keep experiencing them for yourself as well!

Happy fasting friends!
